The men go with only a long, narrow piece of cloth or sash, which, going round their waists, and thence down between their thighs, is brought up behind and tucked-in at that part which goes about the waist. The women have a petticoat from the navel to the knee. However due to education and interaction with the modern world now Andaman people wear shirt pants, lungi. Women wear salwar suits, saris.

How to Reach

By air – Being an island, Andaman is connected with India through sea and air routes. Port Blair airport is the only airport having scheduled flights from Chennai, Kolkata & Vizag.
By Train – You cannot reach Andaman via train
By road – You cannot reach Andaman via road.
By Sea Route: Another way of reaching the islands is by taking 3-4 days / Chennai to Port Blair ship. They sail up to six times per week. However, it is time-consuming & takes a long time. Also, the services are strictly depending on weather conditions. If the sea is rough & stormy weather it gets canceled. Hence Air travel is the most convenient.
Moving around: Cars and Rickshaws are often available for transit within the city. Many drivers flock to the gate near the airport and one must bargain for the best price. Two-wheeler rentals are few but can be found. From traveling one island to another island hire a ferry boat.

Health Precautions

You must carry mosquito repellent, Insect bite ointments & sun screen lotions on the beach. Ask your local guide about beach swimming precautions to avoid sea creature’s bites.
