Itinerary

Day 1
GUWAHATI AIRPORT / RAILWAY STATION - CHERRAPUNJEE GUWAHATI (1148 FT / 350 MTS) CHERRAPUNJEE (4690 FT / 1430 MTS / 200 KMS / 06 HRS DRIVE)

Upon arrival drive to Cherrapunjee enroute Enroute visit Barapani Lake & Elephant falls. Overnight at Cherrapunjee. Check in to the hotel. Overnight in Cherrapunjee.

Note – Most waterfalls dry in winter.

Day 2
CHERRAPUNJEE CHERRAPUNJEE (4690 FT / 1430 MTS)

After breakfast go for a trek to Double Decker Living Root Bridge – 3-4 hours from the starting point (depending on the Fitness of the guest). Distance 4 km down and up 1000 feet approx. This trek goes downhill through village Sohsarat. The steps are relatively steeper in two short stretches. Half the distance is covered by steps going downhill. Then there is a jungle path going along the sides of the hill leading to the Living Root Bridge with a few steps after short stretches of the sloping footpath. Moss thrives on these sandstone steps during the monsoon and makes them slippery. Back trek to starting point and evening at leisure. Overnight at Cherrapunjee.

Day 3
CHERRAPUNJEE – MAWLLYNONG – DAWKI – SHILLONG MAWLLYNONG (4906 FT / 1496 MTS / 80 KMS / 03 HRS DRIVE ONEWAY FROM CHERRAPUNJEE) DAWKI LAKE (5904 FT / 1800 MTS / 30 KMS / 01 HRS 20 MINUTES’ DRIVE ONEWAY FROM MAWLLYNONG) SHILLONG (5002 FT / 1525 MTS, 90 KMS / 03 HRS DRIVE ONEWAY FROM DAWKI LAKE)

After breakfast drive to Mwallynong – “Asia’s Cleanest Village”. Mwallynong offers many interesting sights such as the living root bridge and another strange natural phenomenon of a boulder balancing on another small rock. After the village, visit drive to Dawki and visit the border area. Drive back to Shillong for an overnight stay.

Note – It is advisable to carry packed lunch.

Day 4
SHILLONG- EXCURSION TO MWAPHLANG & MAWSYNRAM MWAPHLANG (4906 FT / 1496 MTS / 30 KMS / 01 HRS DRIVE ONEWAY FROM SHILLONG) MAWSYNRAM (4600 FT / 1496 MTS / 35 KMS / 01 HRS 30 MINUTES’ DRIVE ONEWAY FROM MWAPHLANG)

After breakfast drive to Mawphlang. At Mawphlang visit sacred groove, later drive to Mawsynram – it is known for the Giant Stalagmite formation shaped into a “Shivalinga” and found inside a cave known locally as ‘Mawjymbuin’. A unique geological formation called “Semper Rock”. Overnight at the hotel in Shillong.

Day 5
SHILLONG - KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK (197 FT/ 60 MTS, 290 KMS / 07 HRS DRIVE)

After breakfast visit Don Bosco Museum & Ward’s Lake. After that drive to Kaziranga. Arrive and check in at the hotel. Overnight stay at Kaziranga.

Kaziranga National Park:
The heart of Assam, covering an area of 430 sq-km is inhabited by the world’s largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses, as well as many mammals, including tigers, elephants, panthers, and bears, and thousands of birds. In 1985, it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its unique natural environment.

Important note: Elephant ride and jeep safari and forest entry tickets are all regulated and controlled by the forest dept. Govt. of Assam. As such we do not have any control for booking of elephant safari, jeep Safari & entry tickets.

Day 6
KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK (197 FT/ 60 MTS)

After breakfast goes for Elephant Safari / Jeep Safari to one Range. After lunch goes for Jeep Safari to the other Range. Overnight at Kaziranga.

Day 7
KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK - GUWAHATI GUWAHATI (1148 FT / 350 MTS, 250 KMS / 05 HRS DRIVE)

After breakfast check out and drive to Guwahati. Check in to the hotel. Later visit the Kamakhya temple – it is situated at the top of the Nilachal Hill at about 800 feet above sea level. The entire temple complex not only comprises of many other temples but also a whole set of people connected with them. Apart from the main Devi temple, it also comprises some other major temples of Devi Kali, Tara, Bagala, Chinnamasta, Bhuvanesvari, Bhairavi, and Dhumavati (Notes-Timing 08:00 A.M till 01:00 P.M & 3:00 P.M till its gets dark). Based on your time visit Sankardev Kalakhetra or evening river cruise on direct payment. Overnight at Guwahati.

Day 8
GUWAHATI HOTEL - GUWAHATI AIRPORT / RAILWAY STATION FOR ONWARD CONNECTION GUWAHATI (1148 FT / 350 MTS, 25 KMS / 01 HRS DRIVE)

After breakfast drive to Guwahati Airport / Railway Station for your onward connection.

FACTS – ASSAM & MEGHALAYA

Maa Kamakhya of Guwahati is one of the oldest temples in India. It is the largest shaktipeeth.
Majuli is recognized as the largest river island in the world. It is located on the Brahmaputra river near Jorhat, in Assam.
The Brahmaputra is considered to be among the most majestic rivers in the world. The Brahmaputra enters India in the state of Arunachal Pradesh & flows to Assam.
Sualkuchi is a village in Kamrup district, which is often dubbed as the “Manchester of Assam”, because of its huge cottage and textile industry
Assam is always inextricably linked with the Kaziranga National Park, and for good reason. Kaziranga is a bonafide World Heritage Site, and it is also home to two-thirds of the world’s great one-horned rhinoceroses.
Meghalaya is part of the Seven Sister States of North Eastern India. The literal meaning of the state is “abode of the cloud”. The capital city is Shilong which is also known as “Scotland of the East“.

Best Time to Visit:
The state of Assam is best visited from November to May. The weather is perfect, with cool winds blowing from the Himalayan foothills to reduce heat and humidity. Orchids bloom between March and May, and it is a season of immense joy for the local people who are busy celebrating Bihu, the harvest festival. Often called the abode of the clouds, between October and June the best time to visit Meghalaya is. Most of the state’s tourist destinations receive temperatures that rarely exceed 30 ° C, making it a perfect escape between March and June which is the country’s summer season. Local Languages: The local language of the area is the Assamese language. Hindi & English are widely spoken. There are three major tribes residing in Meghalaya – Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia tribes. Hindi & English are widely spoken.

HOW TO REACH & OTHER INFORMATION

By air – The fastest way to reach Assam is by taking a flight to Guwahati, the state’s capital, from any of the major cities of India, such as Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore, among others. The For Meghalaya closest airport is in Guwahati. It’s roughly 100kms away from Shillong and can be used to arrive at the capital of Meghalaya. The Guwahati station is well connected with all the other cities in India and is often used as a conduit into the state of Meghalaya too. You can also take a flight to Dibrugarh from Delhi or Bagdogra.
By rail – Guwahati Railway Station, which is just 5 km away from the city center, is one of the prime railheads in Assam. The station is well connected to all major Indian cities via a broad rail network. Rajdhani Express, a premium train, takes about 34 hours to reach Guwahati from New Delhi.
By road – Roadways are easily accessible with buses running to and fro from every Bengal and Northeast destinations to Assam. ASTC is a state-owned road transport corporation of Assam and they provide bus services within Assam and adjoining states like Siliguri, West Bengal via national highways 27,317, 31, 10. Meghalaya is well-connected to major cities through roads. The roads are mostly smooth and well-frequented with traffic. Many travelers find the monsoon as the best month for traveling to Meghalaya for the love towards unlimited rain. However, it will be ideal if you could take precautions while driving in the heavy monsoon season. Some of the roads get slowed down due to heavy rain

Moving around:
Private taxis and auto-rickshaws are perfect for moving over short distances within the cities. Buses and Yellow Taxis are available for traveling to various destinations in the city. Tourist Taxis are available in Shillong for local as well as for long-distance tours. If you want to travel by shared vehicles, then there are Sumos available from Bada Bazar in Shillong.

Permits-
No permits are required to travel to Assam. However, the Assam government is considering starting a permit system for people willing to enter the state after coronavirus restrictions. Till the corona outbreak, Meghalaya has imposed no permits But after the pandemic Meghalaya has made it mandatory for visitors to register. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma tweeted, “We are reopening Tourism in Meghalaya for tourists from outside the State from 21st Dec 2020.

Health Precautions-
Assam & Meghalaya are well developed in tourism. However, some basic health tips should be followed. Drink bottled water, carry mosquito repellant & insect bite ointments while traveling to national parks, forests, etc.

About Expenses –
Being the upcoming & popular destinations Assam, & Meghalaya are expensive. Since it has distinct seasons due to national park closures the prices range considerably. The average cost per day is Rs 1200 to 2000/- depending on the style of hotel, vehicle. There are park fees, Costly safaris, etc.

ATM & Credit cards-
ATM services are available in major places in Assam & Meghalaya. But if you are traveling to inner areas please carry cash with you ready as ATMs are not available outside City limits.
Credit cards are accepted by very few hotels and tour operators but there will be a 2% service charge.

Mobile & Inetrnet Connectivity –

Most of the mobile service provider offers their services in Assam & Meghalaya. Internet connectivity at some places may be poor. Most of the hotels, resorts, guest houses offer free WI-FI facilities for their guests.
